FAN8200 and FAN82OOD are low-voltage single-chip or stepper motor driver integrated circuits produced by American Express Semiconductor. They can be used in drive systems, disk drives, secure mobile controllers and thermal printers for two-phase stepper motors such as digital cameras.
1, functional characteristics
The internal structure of the FAN8200 and FAN8200D is shown in Figure 1-1. It consists of two identical control circuits. The control signal is input from the IN terminal and buffered by the pre-stage and sent to the on-chip controller. Then, the control part processes and drives the transistor. Finally, the OUT signal is output from the OUT terminal to control the operation of the motor. The function of the trigger enable port (CE) is to control the output of the two channels respectively. When the CE terminal is low, the output terminal OUT always has a high impedance state with or without input control signals. Therefore, in order to make the FAN820O, FAN820OD controller output work, the trigger enable of the device must be high.

FAN8200, FAN820OD power supply voltage should not exceed 9V, usually 3.3V or 5V. The maximum input voltage is 7V; the maximum power consumption of the FAN820OD is 1W, the maximum power consumption of the FAN8200D is 0.6W; and the off-state power supply circuit is 0.2uA.
2, pin function
The FAN8200 is available in a 14-pin DIP-300 package. The FAN8200D is available in a 14-pin SOP-225 package. The pin functions of the integrated circuit are listed in Table 1-1. A typical application circuit of the FAN820OD in a bipolar motor drive system is shown in Figure 1-2. The two-phase motor can be controlled after the CPU square wave signal is sent from the input terminal and the trigger enable terminal to the integrated circuit. The typical application circuit of FAN8200 and FAN8200D in the motor drive system of digital camera is shown in Figure 1-3. Its integrated circuit can be used to control two DC motors, one (IN1, CEl) for controlling the shutter and the other (IN2, CE2) for controlling the aperture.
