Apple signed an order for 180 million OLED displays, but it will not be used for iPhone 8 or will be used for iPhone 9!

With the popularity of OLED panels in the Android camp, Apple is clearly under pressure.

Yesterday evening news, according to media reports, Samsung's display panel manufacturer Samsung Display has recently signed an order with Apple to supply OLED panels for the iPhone 9 next year.

Last month, SamsungDisplay has signed a cooperation agreement with Apple to supply 80 million OLED panels for this year's iPhone 8. Today reported that SamsungDisplay has won the 180 million iPhone 9 OLED panel supply agreement.

Apple signed an order for Samsung's 180 million OLED display, but it will not be used for iPhone 8 or will be used for iPhone 9!

Previously, several sources pointed out that Apple will start from the iPhone7 and has decided to equip the iPhone with an OLED display next year.

As the next-generation dominant display, OLED displays enable electronic devices to produce brighter, sharper images that consume less power than traditional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and are smaller than the liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used today.

And because the pixel itself can emit light, no separate backlight is needed, so it can be made more light and thin;

Not only that, OLED screens can be more energy efficient, which is also a big temptation for Apple, which has always been a "broad" battery.

In the field of OLED panels, Samsung has almost controlled 90% of smartphones, and Sharp and LG are still in the research and development stage.

According to reports, Samsung Display will supply the iPhone 9 with two sizes of OLED panels with screen sizes of 5.28 inches and 6.46 inches. The supply will be more than twice the supply of the iPhone 8, reaching about 180 million.

According to informed sources,

"The two companies have recently signed a non-disclosure agreement to agree on general supply conditions, such as screen size. But other details, such as screen design and features, have yet to be further discussed, as the iPhone is still under development next year. ."

It is reported that Samsung plans to set up an OLED manufacturing plant in the Asan Industrial Park in South Chungcheong Province to supply screens for the iPhone. It is estimated that Samsung Display's total investment in OLED production lines this year may reach 10 trillion won (about 9 billion US dollars).
