Cypress EZ-USB CX3 boosts Socionext's 360° panoramic camera design solution

Provides the best image quality and superior low power performance for semi-professional and general consumers

Yokohama, July 19, 2017 -- Socionext, a leader in image solutions based on SoC, today announced the 360° panoramic camera design solution with built-in Milbeaut® line of image signal processors.

Socionext's products include two products to meet the growing demand for 360° camera applications. The semi-professional model is based on the company's SC2000 high-performance processor with real-time 4K image stitching. The general consumer model is designed in collaboration with Cypress Semiconductor and ImmerVision with the built-in MBG967 IoT family of processors. Both solutions come with board design reference information and software development kits. Device manufacturers can easily develop custom high performance dome cameras for their unique applications.

The demand for real-time 360° image capture is rapidly increasing, including applications such as real-time playback of virtual reality video. To meet these needs, Socionext worked with Cypress and ImmerVision to develop a camera accessory that can connect to smartphones and other mobile devices. The EZ-USB® CX3 bridge chip is compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 and supports the USB video class (UVC), providing a connection for high resolution, high speed image capture. ImmerVision's patented Panomorph optical technology and software captures high-quality 360° images even on small cameras. With these advanced technologies from partners, Socionext introduces the MBG967 360° camera solution with built-in Milbeau TIoT processor, which can process input data from two cameras simultaneously. The solution's first product was two 16-megapixel cameras mounted on an 8cm x 8cm board. Socionext will continue to expand its product line to meet a variety of resolution and frame count requirements.

The SC2000 is designed for high performance cameras that require high speed processing of large amounts of image data. This product uses Socionext's proprietary image processing algorithm to consume less than 2W in a typical work environment. Users can connect up to 4 cameras to the SC2000, and their chips have real-time splicing of video images, and the output image quality reaches 4K/30fps. The 360° dome camera with SC2000 is ideal for high-end sports cameras and drones. It also provides the perfect ball image for video conferencing systems, theaters and sporting events.
