RobotStudio is a PC application for robot cell modeling, off-line creation and simulation. RobotStudio allows the user to use an offline controller, a virtual IRC5 controller that runs locally on the PC. This off-line controller is also called a virtual controller (VC). RobotStudio also allows users to use real physical IRC5 controllers (referred to as "real controllers").
When RobotStudio is used with a real controller, we call it in online mode. When used without connecting to a real controller or when connected to a virtual controller, we say that RobotStudio is in offline mode. RobotStudio offers the following installation options:
• Complete installation.
• Custom installation allows users to customize the installation path and select the installation content.
• Minimal installation allows the user to run RobotStudio only in online mode.
Installation Options and Prerequisites
RobotStudio is divided into the following two functional levels
Basic Edition: Provides selected RobotStudio features such as configuring, programming and running virtual controllers. It is also possible to program, configure and monitor the actual controller via Ethernet via online operations.
Premium Edition: Provides all of RobotStudio's offline programming capabilities and multi-robot simulation capabilities. Advanced Edition includes all the features in the basic edition. To use Advanced Edition requires activation.
In addition to advanced features, there are several plug-ins such as PowerPacs and options for CAD converters.
PowerPac provides corresponding enhancements for different applications.
The CAD conversion option supports the import of different versions of CAD.
RobotStudio offers the following installation options
Minimized installation - Installs only the functions required to set up, configure, and monitor real controllers connected via Ethernet.
Complete installation: Install all functions required to run a complete RobotStudion. Selecting this installation option allows users to use all features of the Basic and Advanced Editions.
Custom installation: Install user-defined features. By selecting this installation option, the user can choose not to install unwanted robot library files and CAD converters.

Activate RobotStudio license
When RobotStudio is started for the first time after installation, the system prompts for a 25-digit activation key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). If you do not use a valid activation key, the software will operate in basic functionality mode. After the system is activated, the user's subscribed function will get a valid license.
What is the basic function mode
In basic function mode (a reduced-function mode), RobotStudio only allows basic functions for real and virtual controllers. In this mode, existing files or workstations will not be damaged. After activating the software, the user will get all the features purchased. Users can configure, configure, and monitor real controllers over Ethernet without having to activate the installed RobotStudio. However, after activation, users can use additional efficiency features to improve the efficiency of engineering work.
How to activate RobotStudio's standalone licensing
Please use activation wizard to activate user-installed RobotStudio. When RobotStudio is started for the first time after installation, the wizard starts automatically and prompts for an activation key. If you do not want to activate RobotStudio during installation, you can use the Activation Wizard later to do this.

Automatically or manually activated over the Internet
The activation wizard will provide the user with two options for continuing. Users can choose to activate automatically or manually through the Internet. The following section explains these.
Automatic activation (recommended)
When activated automatically, the activation wizard will automatically contact the ABB license server via the user's Internet connection and send an activation request. The license is then automatically installed and the product is ready for use. To perform an automatic activation, the user needs an internet connection while holding a valid activation key that does not exceed the allowed number of installations. After successfully completing RobotStudio's activation, it must be restarted.
Manual activation
If the computer does not have an available Internet connection, the user must manually activate it:
Create a license request file by selecting the Step 1: Create a license request file option. Continue through the wizard steps, enter the activation key, and save the license request file to your computer.
Use a removable storage device (such as a USB flash drive) to transfer the file to a computer with an Internet connection. On this computer, open a web browser, go to http://, and follow the prompts. Finally, the user will get a license key file. Please save this file and send it back to the computer waiting to activate the software.
Restart the Activation Wizard and follow the instructions until the user reaches the Activate Standalone License page.
Under Manual activation, select step 3: Install license file options. Continue the wizard and select the license file when requested. Upon completion, RobotStudio is activated and ready to use. After successfully completing RobotStudio's activation, it must be restarted.
How to activate RobotStudio's network license authorization
With the network license authorization feature, users can install multiple licenses on a single server instead of on each client computer, allowing them to centrally manage licenses. The server will provide the client with a license as needed. A single network license allows multiple clients to use the software. The settings for the network license authorization feature are divided into the following phases:

Installing a Network License Authorization Server
The network license authorization function in RobotStudio uses the SLP Distribution Server as a network license server. It is responsible for issuing network licenses to clients. Users can install the SLP Distributor server from the Utilities\SLP Distributor directory of the RobotStudio distribution program.
The SLP Distributor server is installed as a service that starts automatically with Windows. It requires two open TCP ports, by default 2468 (for network interfaces) and 8731 (for licensing). In the standard Windows Firewall, the installer can open these ports, but for any third-party firewall, must be manually configured by the system administrator.

Set up network license authorization on the client
Users need to use the RobotStudio Activation Wizard on the client system for network license settings. Follow the procedure below to set up a network license for the client system.
Use a short-term mobile license
The Commuter license allows client systems and license servers to work offline. Users can check out licenses from the server for the specified number of days. During this time, other users cannot use the checked out license. Only after manually check the license back to the server Commuter, Commuter other clients to use the license. Short-term mobile licenses in the client system expire after exceeding the check-out time limit. In this case, when you start RobotStudio on the client system, the "Network License" dialog box opens automatically, prompting the user to check the license back into the server.
