The three 3GPP conferences held in August, October and November 2016 are mainly for the technical standard selection of 5G enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB scene) channel coding. Among them, channel coding is divided into data coding and control coding, and data coding is further divided into long code and short code. The two major coding standards of the mainstream are LDPC (Qualcomm-led) and Polar (Huawei-led).
Data encoding "long code", Lenovo & Motorcycle voted for LDPC, because LDPC has obvious technical advantages in performance, so including Ericsson, Sony, Sharp, Nokia, Samsung, Intel, Qualcomm, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Motorola Mobile, plus The major telecom operators, such as Japan and South Korea, have collectively stood in the "only LDPC", while the station "Polar" as the data code, only Huawei.

The voting of 3GPP is weighted, not one person, one vote, and many people. Previously, many nets said that because of the mistake of the Lenovo station team, Huawei’s vote of one vote lost the data coding dispute, which is purely nonsense.
LDPC was not invented by Qualcomm, and the inventor of LDPC was Professor Robert Gallager of MIT. Polar was not invented by Huawei. Its inventor was Professor Arikan, a university teacher in Turkey. Patents including Qualcomm and Huawei are specific to the coding design (including coding matrix construction, IR version design and selection, etc.). Technically speaking, the 5G data channel pursues the transmission rate, which is mainly large packets. The performance of this LDPC does have obvious advantages (this is why the first vote, LDPC extremely successfully won the long code part of the data channel) ). For the 5G control channel, the amount of data transmitted by itself is small, and it is more reliable than speed, which is exactly the part of the Polar code. As Huawei stated in its later statement: "This code battle is more of a technical battle. Don't add too much political color. LDPC becomes data coding, and Polar becomes a control code, which has technical advantages."
After the incident, Lenovo and Huawei as the direct participants of this incident, all made a clarification.
