Semiconductor diodes and amplifiers, usually made of silicon or germanium, are the key to modern electronics. Diodes typically conduct current and voltage through the device in only one biasing direction, but when the voltage reverses, the current stops. The process consumes a lot of energy, which affects battery life.
The problem of electronic battery has always been a problem, and battery life is too short and fever is the main problem. Now, a group of physicists led by Deepak K. Singh, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Missouri, has developed a material that addresses both of these issues. The team has patented this uniquely structured magnetic material. A "honeycomb" lattice with unique electronic properties.
Singer, former chief researcher at MU's Magnetics and Superconductivity Research Laboratory, said: "Semiconductor diodes and amplifiers, usually made of silicon or germanium, are the key to modern electronics. Diodes typically pass through the device in only one biasing direction. Conducting current and voltage, but when the voltage is reversed, the current will stop. This switching process will consume a lot of energy, which will affect the battery life."
“However, by replacing the semiconductor with a magnetic system, we believe we can create an efficient device that is more powerful and consumes less power.â€
Singh's team developed a two-dimensional nanostructured material that deposits a magnetic alloy or permalloy on a silicon honeycomb structure template. New materials can conduct unidirectional currents, or currents that flow in one direction. The power dissipated by this material is also significantly reduced compared to conventional semiconductor diodes.
Singer said: "If the result is successful, it means that the normal 5-hour charge life battery may increase to 500 hours. We applied for a US patent and started working with a company to help us bring the device to market."
