Titan leads the strongest supercomputer

Titan leads the strongest supercomputer The latest supercomputer system, Titan, of the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) was officially launched today. Cray also took the opportunity to announce the hybrid XK7, a hybrid supercomputer used to build this system.

Titan is a Cray XK7 supercomputer with 200 cabinets and 18,688 compute nodes. Each node has an AMD Opteron 6200 16-core processor with a bulldozer architecture and a Kepler-based NVIDIA Tesla K20 GPU acceleration. The computational card, with an overall floating point performance of more than 20 PFlops (2 gigaflops per second), is the most powerful open science supercomputer in the world today and is expected to reach the top of the latest global supercomputer TOP500 list next month. .

The "Titan" system is an upgraded version of the previous Jaguar. The latter is based on the Cray XT5-HE, a hybrid computing system based on AMD processors and NVIDIA accelerator cards. It won the world championship in November 2009. Cray received a new contract from the US Department of Energy in October 2011 to upgrade the Jaguar system.

Each cabinet of the Cray XK7 system can have up to 96 Opteron 6200 processors (1536 cores), 96 Tesla K20 compute cards, 1.5/3TB DDR3 ECC RDIMM quad-channel memory, 576GB GDDR5 memory, and floating-point performance exceeding 100TFlops ( A billion times.) The cabinet is 2.36 meters high, 1.44 meters long and 0.57 meters wide, with a power of 45-54.1 kilowatts.

Cray claims that the highest performance of this system can be expanded to more than 50 PFlops, depending on whether customers are willing to spend money on purchasing configurations.
