According to an American technology blog, London plans to upgrade the street light system in Westminster in the next four years, deploying 14,000 new "smart street lights" that can be controlled through the iPad app.

London decided to invest 3.25 million pounds to replace 14,000 old lamps with new energy-saving lamps. The most interesting thing is that these lights are "smart street lights", which can be used to remind workers through the iPad app which lights need to be repaired or replaced. In addition, technicians can use the application to control the input power of each lamp to further improve energy efficiency.
London ’s move is the first in the UK. The London City Council said that due to the lower operating costs of the new smart lights, their initial investment will recover the cost within 7 years. Starting in 2015, the new smart lamp will save taxpayers an annual energy cost of £ 420,000.
With such energy-saving figures as support, more modern cities may adopt similar smart light systems in the future.
