Zigbee seems to have become a fashion, but at the moment it cannot be a truly practical new technology. For the reason, in addition to being a new technology, it needs a process of technological improvement and maturity, as well as a process of market cultivation. In the practice of applying Zigbee technology to solve practical problems for a long time, we also found that the following are very important: In the short term, we think it is very difficult to solve the problem:

1. One of Zigbee’s core technologies is dynamic networking and dynamic routing, that is, the Zigbee network takes into account the increase and decrease of nodes in the network. Each node in the network is separated for a certain period of time and needs to be re-organized through wireless signal communication. Every time information is sent from one node to another, various possible paths need to be scanned, starting from the shortest path, which involves the management of wireless networks. All of these need to take up a lot of bandwidth resources and increase the delay of data transmission. Especially with the increase in the number of network nodes and the number of transfers. Therefore, although Zigbee's radio frequency transmission rate is 250kbps, the actual available rate after multiple transfers will be greatly reduced, and the data transmission delay will also be greatly increased, and wireless network management will become more troublesome. This is the main problem of data transmission in the current Zigbee network.

2. The word Zigbee, analyzed from the perspective of English, is composed of two words "Zig" and "bee". The former "Zig" in Chinese means a zigzag path, and the latter English word "bee" means bee. As we understand, Zigbee network technology is to imitate the way bee information is transmitted through information between network nodes. Transfer to each other to transfer a message from one node to another node far away. According to the general standard Zigbee node, the average linear transmission distance is increased by 50 meters for each data transfer in the open space, and the 500-meter linear distance needs to be transferred ten times; indoors, due to the 2.4 G transmission frequency used by Zigbee, it is generally passed Signal reflection is used for transmission. Due to the occlusion of the building, it is necessary to transmit a certain distance. It is often necessary to use more network nodes for data transfer. As in the analysis in the first item above, this is for a Zigbee network. It is not a simple matter. Of course, we can also use amplifiers to increase the transmission distance of Zigbee network nodes. However, this will inevitably greatly increase the power consumption and cost of network nodes, and lose the original purpose of Zigbee's low-cost and low-power consumption. Moreover, using this method indoors to increase the transmission distance has limited effects. Obviously, a star network communication structure in which the central point is outdoors and the terminal modules are outdoors is more reasonable.

3. One of Zigbee’s core technologies is that each network node, in addition to acting as an information collection point and executing commands from the center, is also responsible for the data transfer task from the network at any time. In this way, the transceiver of the network node must be in the transceiver at any time. In the receiving state, it means that its lowest power consumption is at least about 20mA. Generally, the long-distance network node of the amplifier is used, and its power consumption is generally about 150mA. It is obviously difficult to use battery drive to ensure the normal operation of network nodes;

4. Since each node in Zigbee participates in the work of automatic networking and dynamic routing, the single-chip microcomputer of each network node is relatively complicated, and the cost is naturally higher. In addition, the amount of development work for specific applications based on the Zigbee network is also greater.

5. In terms of communication stability, the current domestic Zigbee technology mainly uses the 2.4G frequency in the ISM frequency band, which has weak diffraction ability and weak wall penetration ability. In the home environment, even a door, a window, or a non-load-bearing wall will greatly reduce the signal. Of course, some manufacturers will use RF power amplifiers to amplify 2.4G signals, but this will cause additional radiation pollution, and it also runs counter to the original intention of ZIGBEE's low power consumption and energy saving.

In summary, we believe that the Zigbee network actually sacrifices network transmission efficiency, bandwidth and power consumption of node modules in many cases in exchange for dynamic networking and dynamics that are not important in many practical applications. The function of routing, because, in general, our network nodes and data transmission channels are often fixed. Therefore, we believe that the current Zigbee technology has not yet solved the node power consumption problem, the low efficiency of network data transmission and the long delay problem, and the problem of limited data transmission distance are the fundamental reasons why the current Zigbee technology is difficult to be well promoted.
