Detailed system equipment unit of RapidIO protocol

2.1 system model

This chapter describes possible device units for the RapidIO system.

 RapidIO协议之系统设备单元详解

2.1.1 Processing unit model

Figure 1-1 depicts a possible RapidIO-based computer system. The processing element is a computer device, such as a processor plus local memory and connected to the RapidIO system. The bridge of the system provides I/O subsystem services such as telling PCI. Interfaces, Gigabit Ethernet ports, interrupt controllers, and other systems.

2.1.1.1 Processor - Memory Processing Unit Model

Figure 1-2 shows a processing unit consisting of a processor connected to a proxy device that performs some services on behalf of the processor and, most importantly, provides access to local memory. There is a lower latency for remote access. It also provides a RapidIO interconnect interface for remote memory access.

2.1.1.2 Integrated Processor - Memory Processing Unit Model

Another form of processor-memory processing unit is shown in Figure 1-3. It is a fully integrated unit designed to connect to the RapidIO system. This type of device integrates a memory system and other support on a silicon chip. logic.

2.1.1.3 memory processing unit only

Unlike a processing unit, it may not contain a processor, but rather a pure memory device that is simpler than a processor and responds only to requests from external systems without local requests, so it handles all processing in the system. It is all remote memory.

2.1.1.4 Processor-only processing unit

Similar to a memory unit only, this unit contains only the processor and no local memory, as shown in Figure 1-5.

2.1.1.5 I/O Processing Unit

This type of processing unit is the bridge in Figure 1-1. This device is significantly different from the processor or memory device. An I/O device only needs to move data from local or remote memory.

2.1.1.6 Exchange Processing Unit

The switching processing unit is a device that enables communication between other processing units via a switch. A switch can be used to connect different RapidIO compatible processor units. A possible switch is shown in Figure 1-6. The behavior and general interconnection structure are described in the public transport protocol.
