Microsemi Company Announces New Serval-T Ethernet Switching Device Family

Serval-T's new device combines PLL, Cu PHY and CPU to provide a unique access network solution using Carrier Ethernet switching devices

Microsemi has released a new line of Serval-T Ethernet switching devices that offer a nanosecond precision IEEE 1588 solution for next-generation 5G networks and location-based services. This unique device family includes Serval-T (VSC7415), Serval-TE (VSC7435) and Serval-TE10 (VSC7437), which integrates Microsemi's carrier Ethernet switching device functions and an on-chip phase-locked loop (PLL) to expand The company's portfolio of access networks and timing solutions.

The new devices offer flexible 1GE, 2.5GE, and 10GE combinations that are ideal for accessing communications equipment such as mobile backhaul, small cell and Ethernet Access Equipment (EAD)/Network Interface Devices (NID). These products leverage the Virtualized Service Aware Architecture (ViSAA), a silicon device implementation that delivers differentiation through hardware-based Ethernet services; in addition, new devices provide operations, management and maintenance (OAM), service activation testing (SAT) ) and protection switch function. They also feature low power consumption, cost savings for service providers, and small footprints for outdoor and other installation constraints. By combining these features and turnkey software solutions that provide CE2.0 certification, as well as key servo algorithm solutions, Microsemi customers can build market-ready solutions to meet the demanding network needs of service providers.

Uday Mudoi, vice president of marketing for the company's ENT Group, said: "Since our customers are ready to switch to 5G networks and seek to support location-based services, our new Serval-T Ethernet switching devices make the most of us. Carrier's in-depth proprietary technology for Ethernet switching and timing, supporting excellent time-stamp resolution and accuracy of less than two nanoseconds, ideal for next-generation deployments. Microsemi is the only provider of highly accurate time stamping , Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) software, advanced servo algorithms and suppliers of Ethernet switching devices and PHYs for master clock timing products, while Serval-T brings together a wide range of features in a single-chip solution, highlighting Microssen Beauty is committed to driving continuous innovation."

Market research firm IHS Markit expects revenue from small-scale cellular backhaul equipment to grow to $1.2 billion in 2021, with a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 51%, driven by next-generation 5G networks. Microsemi's new Serval-T (VSC7415), Serval-TE (VSC7435) and Serval-TE10 (VSC7437) devices meet this growing demand, providing best-in-class features to help customers prepare for these network deployments Specific needs.

Microsemi's new Serval-T Ethernet switching device family offers significant enhancements over previous generation devices, adding two integrated copper PHY ports, 10G serializer/deserializer (SerDes), IEEE 1588/synchronous Ethernet SyncE digital phase-locked loop (DPLL), and the number of chips is reduced from three to one, with lower bill of materials costs and a smaller form factor design and lower power solution. This simplifies design, reduces costs and speeds time-to-market for customers. The device also uses Micron's patent-pending VeriTIme timing technology to provide a very accurate IEEE 1588 network timing and synchronization implementation, providing nanosecond precision time stamps on all ports.

Compared to competing devices that require multiple external components to support the same functionality, Microsemi has built these product features in the hardware of the device to speed up the solution and reduce power consumption, and is excellent when adding more services. The scalability also allows the device to perform multiple operations in parallel, reducing development time.
