How to design the circuit when the current limit accuracy is high and the area is limited

We need to consider many issues in circuit design. While meeting product performance, we will also pay more attention to product compatibility. In many cases, we need to limit the input current to protect the power supply or battery to avoid some abnormal situations.

Usually we can do circuit design in the following ways

1: Using an op amp or a microcontroller to detect the input current. Using MOS as the cut-off switch is insufficient. Obviously, when the overcurrent occurs, the system will immediately cut off the power and require more peripheral circuits. The current limiting accuracy is not easy to be high. The overall cost is high.

2: Use the BOOST chip with current detection. This type of chip generally judges the current by detecting the internal resistance of the internal MOS tube. There is also a drawback that the current limiting accuracy error is large.

When the current exceeds the limit value, the output voltage starts to drop to avoid other abnormalities caused by sudden power failure.
